Green Mountain College received the Second Nature Climate Leadership Award at the fifth annual Climate Leadership Summit of the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) in Washington D.C. on June 23.
The college has been investing heavily in its environmental stewardship since it declared its environmental mission in 1995. . It has constructed a biomass plant,invested in energy efficiency projects, and has an innovative partnership with Central Vermont Public Service. Just this year the college achieved climate neutrality. Over the past decade the college has invested an average of $1.2 million annually in projects to improve energy efficiency.
