Our Mission

Sustainable Rutland is committed to promoting environmental, cultural, and economic sustainability throughout the Rutland region.

We respect the ability of present and future generations to live sustainable and equitable lives through initiatives designed to build community, provide educational opportunities, and support individual and community models of demonstration within the greater Rutland community.

With optimism and practicality as guiding principles and strategies, we seek to naturally connect the values, needs and responsibilities of individuals with the greater community, while embracing the interconnectedness of our urban and rural communities.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Like other nonprofit organizations, Sustainable Rutland operates under the direction of a Board o Directors. The Board consists of individuals representing areas of the community aligned with our mission, including solid waste/waste management, sustainable/renewable energy, local business, sustainable agriculture, and the community at large.

Membership: The structure of SR based on organizational membership. As an organization of organizations, we have the ability of each organization to outreach to their natural community, as well as enhance their opportunities to collaborate with a wide variety of community organizations. Membership is free of any costs or mandates, and participation voluntary at all times.

Sustainable Work Groups: Project-specific work groups are developed as needed to initiate and carry out individual initiatives. Membership in these work groups is based upon the immediate objectives of individual projects, and, when appropriate, draws from participating organizations.
